Biography

William F. Schmitt was born about 1894, died on June 19, 1967, and buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Dansville, NY. He was a Greece Town Justice, and was appointed North Greece Postmaster in 1925. He was the chief of the North Greece Fire Department.

In 1928 a Town Zoning Ordinance and Building Code is adopted. William J.C. Arlidge is appointed as the town’s first building inspector in 1928. 1928 was the start of a 4-year period in which 567 homes are built in Greece at a total estimated cost of $2,223,603. In 1929 Gordon A. Howe was appointed Justice of the Peace. In 1931 William Schmitt was the owner of the Schmitt Buick auto dealer at North Greece Road and Latta Road.
