Biography

Ira West, born May 24, 1786, at Lee, Mass., to Daniel and Elizabeth (Tracy) West, who moved from Lennox, Mass., to Sherburne, N. Y., in 1802. He died in 1832 and is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester, NY. He was a Colonel in the War of 1812. He was the first merchant in Brighton, then moved to Rochester, with his store located about where Scrantom & Wetmore's is on State Street.
