Biography

Giles Holden was born about 1788 in New Hampshire, died on April 29, 1867, and is buried in Charlotte Cemetery. Holden was the second appointed Charlotte Lighthouse keeper, but he was the first to actually serve. A Lighthouse Keeper was a person assigned to the operation of the lighthouse. The Lighthouse Keeper and their family would live either on the lighthouse grounds or at a house nearby. A street in Charlotte, across from the Lighthouse, is named after Holden.
