Biography

Nelson Lewis was born on October 9, 1820, died on October 24, 1895, and buried in Fairport, New York. He was a farmer, Fairport’s Village President, and then a Water Commissioner. In 1868 the first shipment of iron ore by lake freighter is delivered at Charlotte Harbor for the blast furnace. In 1869 Charlotte becomes an incorporated village.
