Our “SCHOOL DAYS” exhibit shows what a classroom looked like during the time period 1945-1955. Bring your children and grandchildren to see what desks looked like during this period, how the teacher dressed, and what educational tools were used – for example, a pull down map, Dick and Jane readers, and globes.

It will be a great opportunity to meet our dedicated volunteers, view our “Winning the Vote” and “Underground Railroad” exhibits, hear about our past year’s activities, and enjoy a few refreshments.
The Greece Historical Society has partnered with the library councils in the Empire State Library Network to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the ground-breaking of the Erie Canal by hosting an Erie Canal Exhibit.
The exhibit is traveling throughout the region during the year and will be at the Greece Museum during the month of November. Stop by during our open hours (Sundays 1:30 -4:00 pm) and enjoy this unique exhibit, along with, “Winning the Vote; the Woman of Greece,” “The Underground Railroad” and our other fine exhibits created by our volunteers.

Our newest exhibit marks the 100th anniversary of women winning the vote in New York.
The exhibit focuses on Greece women who supported the campaign to win women the right to vote in New York State, particularly Jean Brooks Greenleaf, Georgia Bonesteel Raynsford, and the Charlotte Political Equality Club. It details the three county conventions held in Greece and the famous suffragists who frequently visited, including Susan B. Anthony, Mary Anthony, Anna Howard Shaw, and Harriet May Mills.
The exhibit was curated by Maureen Whalen with the help of Marie Poinan, Joe Vitello, Wendy Peeck, Bill Sauers, Alan Mueller, Lee Strauss, and Jack Kemp.
On Sunday, July 16, beginning at 2:00 pm, at the Greece Historical Society, 595 Long Pond Rd., Ralph DeStephano will speak on the history and development of Buckman’s Dairy at the corner of Ridge Road and Long Pond Road from 1950 to the present.

Learn about the Greece connections to this fascinating clandestine network and the people, both famous and unknown, who helped an enslaved people during a turbulent time in our nation’s history.
The exhibit team consisted of Joe Vitello and Arnie Ammering who constructed parts of the exhibit, Anita Burton who did the art work, and Maureen Whalen who did the research and curated the exhibit.
Greece’s most famous and successful athletes and coaches are featured in this exhibit, which highlights the sports careers of 34 stars in football, basketball, hockey, track, volleyball, baseball, boxing and golf.
Among those included: Bob Bleier, Jeff Weston, Mark Walczak, Tom Stenglein, Coach Ed Nietopski, Coach and Manager Joe Altobelli, John Wallace, Mindy Sawnor, Jill Cardella, Jason “J-Mac” McElwain, Coach Jim Johnson, Doug Miller, and Brian and Stephen Gionta.
