Sunday, September 11 Greece Museum, 2:00 p.m. "The Manhattan Project - Making the First Atomic Bombs" by Wally Rust. After introducing the atoms involved and the scientists, he will cover heavy water production in Norway; plutonium production in Hanford WA; the test explosions in Los Alamos NM; details of four ways to enrich uranium; the three kinds of U-235-producing Calutrons at Oak Ridge TN; and life at Oak Ridge. He will also give design details of Little Boy - the Hiroshima bomb, and Fat Man - the Nagasaki bomb, and the damage they caused. His talk will be illustrated with many unclassified photos, maps, and detailed drawings.
