Searching for the Musical Dossenbachs

September 13, 2016

Searching for the Musical Dossenbachs - in the Parks and Music Halls of Early 20th Century Rochester, and Along the Shores of Lake Ontario by Lisa Kleman Hermann and Theodore Dossenbach, children of poor German immigrants, founded the Rochester Park Band and the Dossenbach Orchestra (precursor to the RPO), and the music school which became the Eastman School of Music. They were also George Eastman's Quartet from 1905 to 1919. Rochester was their city, but Lake Ontario was their playground where they entertained at Ontario Beach Park, Bartholomay Pavilion, the Island Cottage Hotel, Glen Haven, Sea Breeze/Dreamland, and at Webster's Forest Lawn summer community.
