7:00 pm: Mom and Pop Farming by Holly Ricci-Canham7:00 pm: Mom and Pop Farming by Holly Ricci-Canham – Holly Ricci-Canham will talk about her book "Mom & Pop Farming in Orleans County, NY" which includes reminisces about simple days with lots of hard work. The farms featured in the book (much like the farms in Greece many years ago) were part of a close-knit community with neighborhood schools and churches. The book covers farm operations throughout county with sections about muck farmers, dairies, fruit and vegetable farms, canning companies, migrant labor camps, “ladies accounts,” technology changes as well as country schools, “kids play” and fairs and celebrations.

1:30 pm: MUSEUM OPEN1:30 pm: MUSEUM OPEN – 1:30 pm: The Barns of Greece, N.Y.1:30 pm: The Barns of Greece, N.Y. – The Barns of Greece, N.Y. is a newly published book now available at the Greece Historical Society’s museum. Author, Jane Grant began photographing existing barns and interviewing their owners about six years ago. A large display of her photos and stories about the barns was featured at the museum a few years ago. The best part of the project, says Jane, “was meeting delightful people who graciously shared their stories. Many of them were from the farming families who built our town’s reputation for quality garden produce and fruit, and who also contributed to community life in varied ways.” The reader will meet these folks and discover some of our town’s hidden barns in this 64 page full-color book. Meet Jane, hear about her book and purchase a signed copy. |
