7:00 pm: The American Life of Joseph Biggio by Ed Maruggi, PhD


April 9, 2019

Joseph Biggio was the first Italian immigrant name in the Rochester area that appears
in the U. S. Federal Census of 1850. He was born in 1820 and emigrated from Italy
in 1845. He was ordained a Catholic priest in Buffalo, New York in 1849 and his first
assignment was to become the first permanent pastor at “Church in the Woods,” later
becoming Mother of Sorrows Church at the corner of Mt Read Blvd and Latta Road.

Autographed copies of his book will be available for $11.00 (including tax)

Edward Maruggi is a second generation Italian American. He writes
a bi-monthly column for the Italian American newspaper and has
authored thirteen books.

The O’Rorke Memorial Society was formed to honor the life of Colonel O’Rorke and to keep his unrelenting spirit alive. Several projects including a memorial bust and the O’Rorke Bridge have been coordinated by the society.
Investigation is currently underway in hopes the Medal of Honor could be awarded to Colonel O’Rorke

11:00 am: Free Scanning Day

Back by popular demand, this is the fourth year Greece Historical Society is hosting a free photo scanning event. Local members of the Association of Professional Photo Organizers and experts in scanning and preserving photos will be on hand – Kate Jacus, The Photo Curator; Bruce Holroyd, Digital Scan Solutions, and Nancy Carr, Preserve a Photo – will be using professional scanners at each station. Visitors can stop by any time during the day with up to 50 photos or slides. Be sure to bring your own USB flash drive or USB thumb drive.

Angela Blauvelt from Archival Methods, a manufacturer and distributor of archival storage material will also be here to answer any of your archival storage questions.

The Museum will be open during the event for visitors to tour our latest exhibits. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day by preserving your family memories.
