Free Photo Scanning and Preservation Event
Saturday, May 5th, 2018, Greece Museum, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Back by popular demand, this is the third year Greece Historical Society is hosting a free photo scanning event. Local members of the Association of Personal Photo Organizers and experts in scanning and preserving photos will be on hand – Kate Jacus, The Photo Curator; Bruce Holroyd, Digital Scan Solutions, and Nancy Carr, Preserve a Photo – will be using professional scanners at each station. Visitors can stop by any time during the day with up to 50 photos or slides. Be sure to bring your own USB memory stick or card.

The Museum will be open during the event for visitors to tour our latest exhibits. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day by preserving your family memories.

7:00 pm: The Albert Stone Photograph Collection

Glenn Galbraith, great-great grandson of Albert R. Stone, Rochester’s first newspaper staff photographer and pioneering photojournalist will discuss his family lineage and the story of how a collection of thousands of glass plates was saved by his grandmother and how it inspired him to re-photograph images (baring urban development) and what he plans to do with ROC Archive, a regional archive dedicated to the collection, preservation and accessibility of the region's audiovisual media.

Glenn Galbraith holds a Certificate in Film and Media Preservation and a B.S. in Photography Gallery Management. In addition to his current work at the Livonia Area Preservation & Historical Society he is Curator of the Stone Family Collection; consisting of glass plate negatives, prints, books, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings and other artifacts related to Stone photographic lineage

Sunday, May 20, 2:00 p.m. Greece Museum. most active of Rochester’s cemeteries, with 332 acres of land and nearly 300,000 burials. Approximately 1,800 interments take place in their gardens, mausoleums and columbaria each year.  Lynn Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and Ascension Garden will present a program on the history and special features of the cemetery.
